A Geography of Friendship

International municipal partnerships make a crucial contribution to Ukraine’s recovery. This map showcases the breadth and location of partnering municipalities within and outside Ukraine. It highlights the extensive support flowing into Ukraine from municipalities across the globe. It also reveals the untapped potential for even more partnerships that could further bolster Ukraine’s recovery.

The data presented here stem from comprehensive research conducted by U-LEAD with Europe, a technical cooperation programme committed to empowering Ukraine’s municipalities, supported by the European Union, Germany, Denmark, Poland and Slovenia.

The data were gathered through an iterative process. Databases from various sources, including the Ministry for Restoration of Ukraine and international partners, were analysed and combined into one unified database. In a second step, each partnership was confirmed with the respective Ukrainian municipality. In total, 2239 partnerships with 62 countries were identified. For 102 partnerships, no data were available.
